Welcome to Suzie's Sourdough Circus, the home of sourdough and the first worldwide SOURDOUGH SHARE. The intention of this website is to build a worldwide community around sourdough.
Yes, it is possible to make your own sourdough starter, although it's easier to get some from a friend. In fact, many people refer to sourdough bread as friendship bread because it is traditional to pass your sourdough starter along to all of your friends. This way, everyone can enjoy the benefits it brings to their home.
Since we are all friends here at Suzie's Sourdough Circus, we are starting the first worldwide Sourdough Share.
If you have sourdough starter that you want to share, submit a listing to the Sourdough Share. Here you will be able to inform others of what area in the world you live, and how they can contact you to get some starter. You can even write about the history of your sourdough starter. Mine is over 100 years old, imagine how many hands have baked with it.
If you want to start baking with sourdough and would like to find an established starter to work with, browse through the Sourdough Share listings. Here you will find a list of sourdough starters all around the world and hopefully, one near you.
Remember, this site will grow in time as the community grows in and around it. You can help! If you know anyone who has sourdough starter, tell them about this site so that they can post their starter for sharing as well as their favourite recipes.
This website was inspired by the book "Suzie's Sourdough Circus." This story is perfect for teaching children about the wonders of sourdough and getting them ready to help out in the kitchen with the four simple recipes found in the back. Find out more about this incredible book.
Enjoy, and happy fermentations!
